1000 Foot Observation Tower for Miami?

ExMiami reported that developer Jeff Berkowitz has submitted plans to the city of Miami for a 1000 foot observation tower.  If approved Skyrise Miami would begin construction in 2014 on the lot behind the Bayside Marketplace.  Designed by Arquitectonica, this massive structure is planned to include three observation decks as well as a restaurant, nightclub, private lounge and ballroom.  At the proposed height, the Skyrise Miami tower would be the second highest observation tower in the U.S. The tallest is the Stratosphere in Las Vegas Nevada. At 1000 feet above sea level, permission from the FAA was required for Skyrise tower.

David Beckham Picks Miami

Earlier this summer, former England captain David Beckham toured Miami as part of a larger study to pick a location for a new U.S. Major League Soccer expansion team.  Other cities he considered included Montreal, San Diego, and Orlando.  As part of his player contract with the MLS, when he decided to join the L.A. Galaxy, Beckham was given the option to create a new team for $ 25 Million.  He recently announced Miami will be the host city for this team, and as he continues to organize investors, his representatives have already been searching for sites for a purpose-built soccer-only stadium.
